Jackdaw - K.J. Charles

Most of this story is quite depressing, the beginning

(the sort-of rape, which I can't imagine someone doing to a person they used to love)

(show spoiler)

especially horrifying, and I shed a lot of tears while reading it, but the author did an excellent job keeping the reader's attention again, and made the characters seem really human. In the end, I just have to say I love Crane - the voice of reason and humanity in a difficult situation. I hope we'll get to read more about him and Stephen.
